Spending the Holidays away from family and loved ones seems unthinkable, and, yet, it is the reality for so many men and women who serve in the Armed Forces.
In 2009, my husband Jared McDonald (Martin Oaks’ Operations Manager) and I celebrated Christmas on November 17th. We knew he would be leaving for Afghanistan any day, and we didn’t want to miss our first Christmas together. We set up a three-foot tree, and opened presents on the floor of our sparsely furnished apartment. It was heartbreaking to think that he’d be missing Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Day, Valentine’s Day, and our first wedding anniversary.
As a family-owned business with military staff, we are especially grateful to our Armed Forces.
From our military family to yours, thank you for your selfless service. And to those men and women who have offered the ultimate sacrifice, may you find peace and may your families find comfort.
