8 times Tony Award winner, Stephen Sondheim, has composed some of the most beautiful music ever played in the American theater. Intellectual, witty, amusing, there is no easy way to describe the body of his work. It seems that he has written something about every subject imaginable.

In today’s climate of divisiveness, sometimes it is best to remember that there are a lot of reasons we stand together. One of our favorite Stephen Sondheim compositions deals with this very topic: in “No One Is Alone,” he remind us that we are responsible for our own choices, but ultimately we are together despite mistakes and differences. Here are two versions of this song, one from the Broadway play (1987), the other from the successful film (2014). The Broadway version is more complete, but both are charming and worthy of attention. Enjoy.
